CHOSEN RECEIVES A GRANT FROM HEART GALLERIES OF TEXAS TO SERVE 52 POST-ADOPTIVE FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF TEXAS

San Antonio, TX—Chosen is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant from the Heart Galleries of Texas to support families formed through adoption. These funds will be used to provide 16 weeks of transformative, comprehensive care to 52 post-adoptive families in Texas, offering them essential support tailored to their individualized needs

This care will include personalized care plans tailored to each family’s needs, weekly parent coaching focused on trauma-responsive strategies to enhance parenting skills and strengthen family bonds, and on-demand crisis support to ensure families receive immediate assistance during challenging times. Our goal is to empower these families with the tools and resources necessary to foster resilience and connection, ultimately leading to healthier and more stable family dynamics.

We are thrilled to partner with the Heart Galleries of Texas to expand our work. This funding will empower caregivers to lead real change in their families through connection and attachment,” said Jenni Lord, CEO of Chosen. “Families in our communities have expressed multiple needs beyond their adoption finalization. Adoption is a lifelong journey. Together, we are supporting the well-being of children and families, forging a healthier Texas.

Heart Galleries of Texas conducted a needs assessment that included responses from 388 parents and 175 social service providers across Texas. Findings suggest that 60% of caregivers are unsatisfied with mental health services with 28% reporting that they cannot access mental health services for their child and family. Caregivers also reported that mental health services for parents, childcare services and respite care are difficult for families to access but are highly needed.

We are excited to support Chosen in providing post-adoptive family services throughout Texas,” said Kori Gough, Director of the Heart Galleries of Texas. “Our work in understanding the needs of families after adoption and kinship have highlighted the need to continue to support families throughout a child’s development. The Heart Galleries of Texas has released $3.25 million in grants to help families access needed services.

The Heart Galleries of Texas is housed within the Moritz Center for Societal Impact at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work in collaboration with the Texas Center for Child and Family Studies. The Texas Women’s Commission, Office of the Speaker and Office of the First Lady have been strong supporters of the expansion of Heart Gallery programs.

The Heart Galleries of Texas is dedicated to improving adoption outcomes and I am excited to see them expanding from promoting adoptions to also supporting families after adoption,” said Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott. “We look forward to the lasting positive impact on adoption outcomes for children and families across the state.
