Healing Happens Through Relationships
Small, intentional changes in how parents and caregivers respond to their children can lead to dramatic improvements, proving that healing is possible when grounded in connection.

Parenting a child who has experienced trauma can be overwhelming and lonely. Your heart races as you see the school number pop up on your phone. A child’s poor social awareness or meltdowns leave your cheeks red at every social event. Fights in your home lead to verbal and physical aggression that leaves you wondering how to keep everyone safe.

Spending time with friends who “get you” can sometimes leave you feeling understood but commiserating – no real solutions. Conversely, “the professionals” who are supposed to provide the solutions seem like they have no concept of your daily challenges. It can often make us doubt that true healing is actually possible. But what if there was a way forward—a way that not only transforms your child’s behavior but also strengthens your connection as a family?

At Chosen, we believe there is.

A Different Approach: Empowering Caregivers to Transform Lives

Chosen’s Parent Directed Services model is unique. While many services exist for children and youth who have experienced trauma, we work directly with parents and caregivers. Why? Because caregivers are the most critical agents of change in their homes. Your daily interactions, love, and guidance can unlock healing for your child, but only when you have the right tools and support.

It might feel counterintuitive, especially when you’re facing behaviors that feel urgent to “fix.” But time and again, we’ve seen that even small changes in how you respond to your child can lead to dramatic shifts in your family. In fact, when we assess children’s trauma symptoms before and after working with their caregivers (measuring things like anger, aggression, and depression), outcomes improve significantly, even though we don’t work directly with the child.

The Caregiver Journey: From Crisis to Connection

When you begin working with Chosen, you’re paired with a professional Care Manager who meets with you weekly via telehealth. These one-on-one sessions aren’t just another training. They’re a safe space to unpack real-life scenarios and challenges your family is facing. Together, you’ll:

  • Understand the “why:” Learn to see behaviors as a form of communication and address the root causes instead of simply trying to change behaviors.
  • Prioritize connection: Discover how to build a foundation of trust, even when behaviors make you feel like disconnecting. Learn how to keep that connection even while correcting.
  • Apply trauma-responsive tools: Get strategies tailored to your family’s specific needs, empowering you to show up differently for your child.

Our Care Managers are not only experts in trauma and attachment but also deeply empathetic. Many have lived experience as caregivers themselves or have worked professionally with children who have experienced trauma. This combination of knowledge and empathy creates a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported—a crucial first step in creating lasting change.

Real Support, When You Need It Most

Parenting a child with a history of trauma often brings unexpected crises. That’s why Chosen offers 24/7 phone access to your Care Manager. Whether you’re navigating a meltdown or a tough decision, you’ll never have to face it alone. When everything feels like it’s falling apart, having someone just a phone call away who understands and can help makes all the difference.

Your Care Manager also acts as a guide, connecting you to additional resources like school and medication consultations, counseling referrals, and community support. This comprehensive approach ensures that your family has the tools and community needed to thrive.

Why It Works

Many families come to us feeling hopeless. They’ve tried everything and don’t see a way forward. But after just a few months, they tell us they feel more equipped, hopeful, and connected as a family.

Our model works because it’s practical, personalized, and grounded in the belief that healing happens in the context of relationships. By equipping you—the caregiver—with trauma-responsive tools and support, we help you create the safety and connection your child needs to heal.

There Is Hope

Choosing Chosen means choosing hope. It’s not an easy path, but it one with proven success. We are 100% in control of the way we show up for our child and even small degrees of change can create significant improvement in your home. If you’re ready to move from surviving to thriving as a family, we’re here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

You don’t have to choose between someone who understands you and someone who can help you. If you’re ready to try something different – something that works – we’re here to walk with you.
