On-Demand Access Available February 19 – March 5, 2025Rewiring Connection: The Science of Blocked Care is designed for parents, relatives, respite care providers, and child welfare professionals who are struggling with feelings of resentment, frustration, and a lack of compassion toward the children in their care. This training addresses what happens in our own nervous system when caring for a child with challenging, sometimes embarrassing, and even hurtful behaviors. When a child has experienced relational trauma, they may often reject the very connection they crave and need. Rewiring Connection takes a brain based look at the emotional and psychological barriers that prevent caregivers from enjoying their children and provides strategies to overcome these challenges and continue working towards healthy attachment. The goal is to help caregivers understand the meaning behind their own feelings and action giving them greater capacity to cultivate a heart change toward their children, enabling deeper connection and affection.
Course Objectives:
- Understand what causes blocked care and its impacts
- Identify and address expectation gaps
- Manage guilt and shame through a brain-based approach
- Understand how thought patterns impact our relationships and ways to reframe
- Discuss the negative interaction loop and strategies to break the cycle
- Practicing Forgiveness and Acceptance
- Identify strategies for self-care and re-building compassion
Conclusion:
This training aims to support parents, caregivers, and professionals in overcoming blocked care by fostering honesty, compassion, and self-care. It takes a brain-based approach to validate the challenges of pursuing connection when the children in our care often cause our nervous system to go into protection mode. Participants will learn practical strategies for understanding and caring for themselves as well as work towards building stronger, more connected relationships with their children.
